Schoenberg played by cats

</object>

via Flavorpill

It's a cute kitteh video, and also a modernist piano piece. As explained in Flavorpill's Artkrush newletter:

One of the latest works from digital artist Cory ArcangelDrei Klavierstucke, Op.11 is a compilation of fragments from YouTube videos that captures a variety of cats walking on piano keys, each producing a note. Together, they recreate a dynamic piece of modernist music.

Thomas Demand

'To make a piece of paper, looking like a piece of paper, not a piece of paper ...'
Video via monocle.com

So first you're thinking, 'Okay, cool photos.' Then you realise that the photos are of sculptures. And the sculptures are made of paper. Wow. And then there's the bit at about 04:40 where he talks about having to sculpt a piece of paper ... from paper, and you're like, 'Dude, you're messing with my head.'

Seriously, though, I'd love to see this exhibition.

That Guy

I'm enjoying That Look You Give That Guy from the latest Eels album, Hombre Lobo

That look you give that guy I wanna see looking right at me
If I could be that guy instead of me, I'd be all I could be

It's not just that he's heartbroken, it's not just that he wants her to be with him instead of That Guy, no, he actually wants to be That Guy. Ah, that E sure knows how to inject a shot of self-loathing into a song.

Channel 4 newsreaders make beautiful music

Good grief. Why did they do it? But well done to them, anyway, lovely stuff. But still: why?

Taryn Simon photographs secret sites

Amazing pictures. And I like her delivery -- her deadpan, detached tone complements the subject matter. For more on Taryn Simon, have a look here.

One Twitter trend too many

Oh for crapsake. I suppose I'm going to have to figure out what this is all about. If you want to save me the trouble and just comment the gist below, I'd be much obliged.

UPDATE

Okay, figured out about as much as I need to know. Eveyone is going crazy for invites to Google Wave's 'limited preview release'. This much I knew. What was puzzling me was a sudden wave of tweets and re-tweets claiming people had loads of invites to give away. It didn't seem to add up -- there were more tweets giving them away than accpeting them. Today I find this on Iain Tait's blog, which I assume is a part-explanation. Summary: someone started a Twitter hashtag with his name as a joke, claiming he had 1000 invites to give away, and his Twitter account was instantly swamped. In fact his Twitter account is still "kind of unusable right now" says Iain.

What happened? Were people really stupid enough to think that the rumour was true? Or did they get it, but thought it would be fun to jump on the hashtag practical joke bandwagon anyway? I'm not sure which possibility is preferable.
